Rigoletto In Concert

In the 19th Century, when Giuseppe Verdi wrote his opera Rigoletto, many operas resembled The Wizard of Oz, with very good 'good guys,' very bad 'bad guys,' and of course, lots of great melodies. However, Rigoletto is more like the 2003 musical Wicked, which reworked the Oz characters into more complicated people, neither fully evil nor fully good. Like Elphaba from Wicked, Rigoletto is a complex protagonist: he makes questionable moral choices, but we sympathize with him because of the suffering he endures. There are three main characters in Rigoletto. The Duke of Mantua is the powerful local ruler, a handsome young man who uses his money and power to seduce women. Rigoletto is a hunchbacked jester who works as a cynical comedian for the Duke. Gilda is Rigoletto's innocent, sheltered teenage daughter, who longs to experience love. A QPAC "in concert" premiere!

Before there was Beyoncé and Jay Z, or Sonny and Cher, there was a couple whose solo careers were magnificent, but on tour together there were no other performers who could thrill an audience the way they did. Over the course of their forty-plus year career together, entertainers Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé left an indelible impression on popular music in America. Although each an accomplished vocalist in their own right, they are most widely recognized for their duets. Steve and Eydie were the recipients of many professional honors, including multiple Emmy and Grammy Awards. Celebrating the music of Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé, with songs like This Could Be The Start Of Something Big, Besame Mucho, Sentimental Journey, Our Love Is Here To Stay, is their son David Lawrence, and Tony Award winner Debbie Gravitte!

These four gentlemen have been the voices appearing alongside the legendary Frankie Valli for the last decade. Hand-picked to tour the world with the rock and roll legend, Valli knew instantly that the vocal blend of these four highly accomplished singers was uniquely beautiful in a dramatic and striking way. Not since the sounds of the Four Seasons or the Bee Gees has there been a group with this much vocal chemistry. Individually, Landon Beard, Todd Fournier and brothers Brian and Brandon Brigham have extensive Broadway, television and film credits. On stage together, they bring their charm, high energy and spot-on vocals, performing classic pop, rock and doo wop songs for a modern audience.

Notes on this season

  • As you know, we are remodeling the performing arts center to accommdate patrons with disabilities. By revamping our venue, changes to the theater's seating, concession, box office, restrooms, lighting and sound will be noticeable.
  • QPAC remains fully committed to pursuing the completion of our renovation in a safe, diligent and reasonable manner under the current circumstances. However, as with most construction projects throughout the City, we have encountered certain delays as a result of this pandemic. Additionally, due to these delays, we are now dealing with the cumulative effect on the project. The impacts include labor shortages, material shortages and significant delays in lead times as a result of factory closings across the globe. At this time, while it may not be possible to quantify the delay, I can assure you that we are evaluating all options to minimize and mitigate the impact to this special project.
  • It is our hope, that we will open our new theater in the spring of 2022, and host our spring events in this miraculous space.
  • Our spring shows will go on sale once we are sure of the location for each presentation. Restrictions on tickets, refunds and exchanges will remain in effect. Specific seats purchased will be reserved and honored at the location for each event. You will be seated in the seat you purchase on-line.
  • Fear not, our beloved ballet and opera programs will resume, upon the completion of the renovation to our theater.
  • We will continue to keep you informed. Your support is greatly appreciated as we work our way through this unprecedented challenge.
All programs, artists and dates subject to change!
